A discussion session and rally were held with tannery workers at the Tannery Workers Union office, jointly organized by Gender Platform Bangladesh and Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF). The initiative is part of BLF’s long-standing commitment to protecting tannery workers’ rights and strengthening awareness on workplace safety, dignity, and gender equality.
The event highlighted the urgent need to prevent all forms of violence against women and girls, including the growing threat of digital violence. Speakers stressed that women in both formal and informal sectors face heightened risks of harassment, exploitation, and abuse; both offline and online.
Collective action is essential to eliminate violence against women in workplaces and digital spaces.
Strengthening workers’ awareness and digital literacy can help prevent harassment and ensure that no one falls victim to online abuse.
Promoting a respectful, safe, and equitable work environment is a shared responsibility of unions, employers, civil society, and the workforce.
A large number of tannery workers took part in the rally, raising their voices for a safer, more just workplace and community. Their participation reflected a strong personal and collective commitment to protecting the dignity and rights of all women and girls.
