Seminar on Elimination of Child Labour in Keraniganj; Challenges and Way Forward
Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) and Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment (DIFE) jointly organized a seminar on Elimination of Child Labour in Local RMG, Keranigonj; Challenges and Way Forward at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka on 7th November, 2021. Mr. Md. Ehsan-E-Elahi, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment (MOLE) was present in the program as Chief Guest. The event presided over by Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Inspector General of the Inspection for Factory and Establishment (DIFE). Mr. Tuomo Poutiainen, Country Director for ILO Bangladesh Office, Md. Mehedi Hasan Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Keranigonj, Advocate Salma Ali, Co-Chair of Child Labour Monitoring Committee, Dr. Wajedul Islam Khan, General Secretary of Trade Union Kendra, Masud Ali Khan, Member of NPA Drafting Committee were present in the program as panel discussion member. Abdus Salam Khan, Chairman of BLF, Md. Jahangir Shah, Chairman of Agangar Union Parishad, Representatives from government departments, Representatives from Civic Society Organizations, Midea Representatives were present in the program. The program was moderated by Z M Kamrul Anam, General Secretary of BLF.
Mr. Ashraf Uddin, Executive Director delivered the welcome speech and shaw a video documentary on the child labour situations of Keranigonj local garments industry. A K M Salauddin, Deputy Inspector General of DIFE presented the key note of the program.
Md. Ehsan-E-Elahi, Secretary of Ministry of Labor and Employment spoke as chief guest and he said that Keraniganj Upazila will be declared as a model Upazila by eliminating child labor. He gave instructions to the Inspector General, Department of Inspection for Factory and Establishment (DIFE) and Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer to take necessary action to eliminate the Child labour from Keraniganj. He suggested to UNO of Keranigonj to propose and develop project regarding child labour elimination. Mr. Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishments (DIFE) said his department will review the action plan for next 2022-2023.
