Rally in Keraniganj Calls for Safe Workplaces for Women Workers

As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) and Gender Platform Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Keraniganj Trade Union, organized a rally and road march in Keraniganj with active participation from local garment workers.

The initiative aimed to strengthen awareness and collective commitment to preventing gender-based violence, harassment, and discrimination—particularly in informal sectors such as the Keraniganj informal RMG cluster.

Addressing Violence in the Workplace

Speakers highlighted that women workers often face multiple layers of violence both inside and outside the workplace.
The discussions underscored that such violence:

  • Undermines women’s dignity and safety

  • Weakens workplace productivity

  • Limits women’s participation in the labour market

  • Threatens overall well-being and economic security

They reiterated the need for effective worker awareness, operational grievance mechanisms, and the activation of sexual harassment prevention committees as mandated by national guidelines.
