Meeting for Reviewing the Action Plan Towards to Achieve Social Compliance in the Tannery Industry

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) organized a Meeting for reviewing the Action Plan towards to achieve social compliance in the tannery industry on 26th October 2021 at the Conference Room of BLF Head Office. Earlier as per direction of the formal Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, a one-year duration Action Plan towards achieving social compliance in the tannery industry was prepared throughout several meetings organized by BLF. With the lead of DIFE and active participation of Department of Labour, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry, Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) Tannery Workers Union (TWU), in 25th January, 2021, the action plan finalized and submitted it to the formal Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment for his kind consent and approval. It was also submitted to the Inspector General of DIFE and other concerned ministries and departments. But due to the transfer of the Labour Secretary from this ministry it has been delayed to come out for implementation. By this time the new Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment has taken over the charge and BLF again submitted the Action Plan to this concerned ministry. As it had been submitted a long time ago and 10 months had already passed, the honorable Secretary advised BLF to sit together again and revise the Action Plan for 1 year accordingly. So, for this reason, the meeting was organized and it was revised with consent committee members.
