Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) has observed International Women’s Day 2022 on March 8 in the BSCIC Tannery Industrial Estate, Savar, Dhaka, with the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. Tannery Workers Union and Bangladesh Tanners Association have also participated in this celebration. About 200 women and men workers from various tanneries participated in the International Women’s Day rally organized with the support of donor organizations The Asia Foundation and Mondiaal FNV. The rally was followed by a discussion program chaired by Abul Kalam Azad, President, Tannery Workers Union. Along with the representatives from Tannery Workers Union, Bangladesh Tanners Association, and BLF, women workers from different tanneries gave their remarkable speeches on the discussion. They focused on increasing women’s participation in the tannery industry, maternity leave in accordance with labor laws, prevention of sexual harassment of women in the workplace, and the rights of women workers. Owners and management representatives of various factories also participated in the discussion meeting and rally. BLF also arranged a roadshow in and around the TIE, Savar with the theme and slogan of International Women’s Day 2022. A festive ambiance was created during the roadshow, as local people and workers of different factories came out to enjoy it.
