Just Climate, Energy, and Technology Transition Training in Tannery

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) recently organized an impactful training session for tannery workers and union leaders on Just Climate, Energy, and Technology Transition in the leather and tannery sector.

The tannery sector is highly energy-intensive and faces growing pressure to reduce pollution and adopt greener technologies. As the industry intent to modernizes to meet global environmental standards, workers are at risk of job displacement, unsafe transitions, and skill gaps.
To ensure that climate action doesn’t come at the cost of workers’ rights, this training focused on:

✅ Understanding climate risks in tannery operations
✅ Preparing for automation, digitalization, and green tech
✅ Promoting decent work and safety during energy transition
✅ Strengthening union capacity to advocate for workers in climate policies

This first-of-its-kind initiative is a crucial step to make sure that no tannery worker is left behind in the green transformation.
This is not just about cleaner production — it’s about climate justice, decent work, and social dialogue.
