Strategic Planning Workshop of Tannery Workers Union

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) & Tannery Workers Union (TWU) jointly organised a daylong Strategic Planning Workshop for Tannery Workers Union. The program was attended by Executive Committee Leaders, Factory Representatives, Youth Committee Leaders, Women Committee Leaders of the Union. The participants pointed that this is the first of the Tannery Workers Union history where all leaders participated together in the meeting. They also mentioned that this is a great get together of the union and determined to continue this in every year from now onwards. Throughout the workshop, the participants went through different sessions and figured out the unions road map in upcoming days. They also express their determination to implement National Plan of Action to ensure Social Compliance in the Savar Tannery Sector at any cost and uphold the Tannery Workers right.

 

During his speech, BLF Chairman Brother Abdus Salam Khan express that Bangladesh Government is seriously working on diversification of export and has given emphasis on Leather, Leather Goods & Footwear Sector. Thus it is now very important the we all should work together to ensure the decent workplace to bring this sector to the international compliant standard. He told that employers, workers and the government should work together with a strong collaboration to align with the ILO Roadmap, EU supply chain due diligence and as a whole implementation of country laws and rules. He declared that Bangladesh Labour Foundation will be always with Tannery Workers Union and Tannery Sector to guide it through to a compliant and commendable sector in upcoming days. Among others Tannery Workers Unions President Abul Kalam Azad and the Secretary Abdul Malek was also attended as participants in the workshop.
