Training for the Safety Committee on Operational Knowledge and Skills at TIE, Savar

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) organized two days long training on Operational Knowledge and Skills for Safety Committee members with the support of The Asia Foundation.

Training organized at Dhaka Tannery Industrial Estate Wastage Treatment Plant Company Limited (DTIEWTPCL) conference room, Hemayetpur, Savar, Dhaka, on 18-19 June 2022. 24 members from 4 tannery factories were the participants in the training.

The main objective of the training was to increase the knowledge and build the capacity of the safety committee as per Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 and Bangladesh Labour Rules 2015.

At the end of the training, participants are able to prepare how to write meeting minutes and risk assessments at the factory level.

A.M. Sajjad Hossain Khan, Senior Program Officer, The Asia Foundation, and Rehana Akter Ruma, Head of project and programs, Bangladesh Tanners Association attended as guests.

Md. Mehedi Hasan, Deputy Inspector General (Health) of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment (DIFE), and Mir Md. Shahenul Islam, Senior Operation Engineer, DTIEWTPCL were guest facilitators.

The training covered the following topics:

  • Basic Concept of the Safety Committee and its activities
  • Safety Committee formation and responsibility
  • Writing meeting proceedings under the guidance of the safety committee
  • Basic Concept of Occupational Safety and Health, Building Safety, Risk assessment and Steps
  • Government instructions to enter the factory during the Covid-19 period
