Strengthening Industrial Relations in the Leather Sector

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF), with support from Mondiaal FNV, organized a capacity building workshop in Savar, bringing together workers’ representatives, factory management, and key stakeholders from the leather sector. The program was organized in cooperation with DIFE, BTA, BFLLFEA, and the Tannery Workers Union, seeking to advance better labor standards and social compliance.

 
Platform for Dialogue

The seminar focused on the necessity of encouraging young people and women to actively participate in trade unions in order to address generational shifts. It sought to guarantee leadership that represents the variety of the workforce and to enhance democratic participation in the workplace.

 

 Key Focus Areas

  • Evaluation of the National Plan of Action’s (NPA) progress and gap analysis.

  • The establishment and operation of safety committees.

  • Minimum wage, labor rights, and grievance procedures.

  • Anti-Harassment Committee activation in accordance with legal requirements.

  • New standards for Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) in supply chains.

 

 Group Dedication

In order to promote decent work in Bangladesh’s leather industry, participants promised to establish compliance procedures, activate workplace committees, and improve communication as well as emphasized cooperation and accountability.
