Recycling Solid Waste in the Tannery Industry

“Recycling Solid Waste in the Tannery Industry” – a dialogue has been hosted by the Asia Foundation on 24 August 2022 at Dhaka under the project “Promoting Decent Work and Acceptable Working Condition in the Tannery Sector of Bangladesh”. Bangladesh Labour Foundation is implementing partner of this project in the Savar Tannery Estate, Dhaka.
Participants from different stakeholders discussed the current issues of Savar Tannery Estate in the dialogue where Solid Waste Management remains an important issue for the discussants. The dialogue heard different uses of tannery solid waste so that it will contribute to the economy and the environmental impact will be reduced drastically. The discussant also discussed a technical study on how the solid waste from the tannery can be used more efficiently without compromising the environmental loss.
Leather Experts, Tannery Owners, Entrepreneurs, Representatives from Ministry of Commerce, Department of Environment, BSCIC, Tannery Owners Associations, National and International Development Organisations, and Research Organisations participated in the dialogue.
