Abdus Salam Khan, Chairman of Bangladesh Labour Foundation, is one of the veteran labour leaders of Bangladesh. He has been working to organise the workers, establish their rights and welfare for a long time before independence.

He was the General Secretary of Bangladesh Trade Union Center, the largest national workers’ federation after independence. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman nominated him as a member of the executive committee of BaKSAL Sramik League. He also became the president of Jatiya Sramik League on the nomination of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina. He is a member of the advisory committee of Tangail District Awami League.

He was a member of the Advisory Committee for Workers’ Education of the International Labour Organisation for six years. He has been the President of Bangladesh Confederation of Trade Unions and Bangladesh Pani Unnayan Sramik Federation and also the General Secretary of Bangladesh Bidyut Sramik Federation.

He is a former councilor of the World Federation of Trade Unions. He is currently a member of the Labour Court, the Government Tripartite Advisory Committee, and the Government Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

He has traveled to more than 16 countries to attend various international conferences, including the ILO conference in Geneva. He is a graduate of Dhaka University. During the Pakistan period, he was imprisoned for six months under the Defense Act.
