Honorable Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, GoB Md. Ehsan E Elahi visited Keraniganj Local RMG Industrial Area and the factories who produces and supplied to different areas of the country. He has discussed with the employers and the workers in Keraniganj and understood different aspects of these factories. He was surprised to see so many child workers below 14 are working in these factories with no wages and benefits. He told the factory owners and other stakeholders for immediate withdrawal of child labour from these factories. During the visit among others Md Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Inspector General, Department of Inspection for Factories and Inspection (DIFE); Z M Kamrul Anam, Secretary, Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF); Ms. Mahbuba Bilkis, Deputy Secretary, MOLE; Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Joint Inspector General, DIFE; A K M Salah Uddin, DIG, Dhaka District, DIFE; Md. Jahangir Alom Chairman of Aganagar Union Parishad, Keraniganj; Employers Associations representatives, workers unions representatives were also present. The Secretary express his deep concern against the child labour and told the department to take immediate plan of action to eliminate child labour from Keraniganj Local RMG Industry within 2023.
