Fire Drill at the Arafat Leather Complex in the Tannery Industrial Estate

Bangladesh Labour Foundation – BLF recently organized a Fire Drill at the Arafat Leather Complex in the Tannery Industrial Estate (TIE), located in Savar, Dhaka. The objective of the drill was to provide hands-on training to workers and supervisors on how to effectively respond to a fire emergency.

The event took place on 11th July 2023 and was organized by the BLF, with support from The Asia Foundation, both financially and technically. This collaboration aimed to promote social compliance in tannery factories, with a specific focus on ensuring industrial safety for workers. The Fire Drill was a crucial component of various initiatives undertaken to create a safer and more conducive working environment, addressing concerns beyond the scope of other workplace issues.

By conducting this Fire Drill, the BLF and its partners aimed to equip workers and supervisors with the essential knowledge and skills necessary to tackle fire incidents promptly and efficiently. This training not only enhances the safety of the workforce but also contributes to creating a decent workplace that upholds high standards of industrial safety.

The venue, Arafat Leather Complex, served as a practical setting for the drill, allowing participants to familiarize themselves with the specific challenges and potential hazards associated with fire emergencies in the tannery industry. Through this hands-on experience, the workers and supervisors gained valuable insights into fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and the proper usage of fire extinguishing equipment.

Overall, the Fire Drill conducted by the Bangladesh Labour Foundation in the Tannery Industrial Estate demonstrates their commitment to promoting workplace safety and providing workers with the necessary skills to handle emergency situations effectively.
