Eliminating Child Labour: Aligning National Laws with ILO Standards

On January 19, 2026, the Trade Union–International Labour Standards (TU-ILS) Committee, in collaboration with ILO Bangladesh and the Workers Resource Center, arranged a workshop titled “Eliminating Child Labour: Alignment of National Laws and Policies with ILO Conventions.” In order to bolster efforts to eradicate child labor in Bangladesh, the workshop brought together trade union representatives, legislators, and important stakeholders.

Increasing alignment of Law and Policy

With a focus on trade union perspectives, the workshop addressed the gaps between national frameworks and international labor norms. The necessity of transforming international pledges into successful national initiatives to end child labor was brought up during discussions.

 Key Messages

  • To effectively eradicate child labor, discrepancies between national laws and ILO treaties must be filled.

  • In order to create inclusive and rights-based labor laws, trade union participation is essential.

  • For the draft National Plan of Action (NPA) to be implemented practically and effectively, deficiencies must be found and fixed.

  • The government, ILO, trade unions, and other stakeholders must work together to advance a future free from child labor.

In order to bolster the national reaction, the Core Working Committee on the NPA provided updates on developments and stressed the significance of implementing trade union suggestions.
