Democracy Human Rights and Labor (DRL) representatives visited Tannery Industrial Estate Savar Dhaka

Keisha Adams, Program Officer and Haley Smith, Program Officer of Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) under United States Department of State and Mohammad Sadat S. Shibli, Director of The Asia Foundation visited Tannery Industrial Estate, Savar, Dhaka.
 
During the visit, the visitors met with the leaders of Tannery Workers Union. They discussed about the unionization and growth of the trade union over the years.
 
Later they visited RK Leather Complex and discussed with the employers regarding the current status of TIE, Dhaka, and observed factory production process. They were impressed to see how the factories progressing towards to achieve the compliance for a sustainable future.
 
Afterwards, they visited the Bangladesh Labour Foundation’s local project office and discussed several sectoral issues with the project implementation team. They also expressed their expectation to work together in future to develop the betterment of the tannery sector and tannery workers as well.
 
A K M Ashraf Uddin, Executive Director of BLF, Md. Taherul Islam, Program Manager at The Asia Foundation Bangladesh & other members of the Asia Foundation and BLF team members were presented during the visit.
