International Labour Day 2026: Standing with Informal Workers

On the occasion of International Labour Day 2026, Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) stands in solidarity with the informal workers of Bangladesh—from Keraniganj’s small workshops to home-based women workers and those engaged in the hidden layers of national and global supply chains. Many still have to deal with low pay, hazardous working conditions, a lack of protection, and the possibility of exploitation and forced labor despite their crucial contribution to the economy.

Promoting Rights and Acknowledgement of Informal Workers

BLF emphasizes that without guaranteeing the rights, dignity, and protection of informal workers, inclusive and sustainable development in Bangladesh cannot be accomplished. Policies and procedures that ensure equal treatment and opportunities must acknowledge their efforts.

Key Priorities
  • Making sure informal laborers receive fair and livable wages
  • Encouraging secure and healthful workplaces
  • Increasing the scope of legal recognition under labor legislation
  • Increasing the availability of social safety nets
  • Respecting collective voice and the right to organize

These requirements are in line with Bangladesh’s national pledges and international norms regarding human rights, decent labor, and ethical supply chains. In order to guarantee that no worker is left behind, exploited, or invisible, BLF is still dedicated to elevating the voices of informal workers and encouraging responsibility throughout supply chains.
