Putting Workers at the Heart of the Climate Agenda

The discussions focused on translating workersโ€™ experiences and sectoral realities into concrete policy priorities for a Just Transition, recognizing the growing impacts of climate change and the need to ensure decent, secure, and sustainable employment in a changing climate.

Key Discussions

    • Workersโ€™ Representation in Climate Decision-Making โ€“ Ensuring meaningful participation of workers and trade unions in climate governance and policy processes
    • Social Dialogue & Tripartite Participation โ€“ Strengthening dialogue and collaboration among government, employers, and workers in shaping climate and labour policies
    • Decent Work, Employment Security & Living Wages โ€“ Promoting secure employment, decent working conditions, and fair wages amid climate and economic transitions
    • Social Protection for Workers โ€“ Strengthening protection for workers affected by climate risks and the transition towards a greener economy
    • Skills Development, Reskilling & Green Jobs โ€“ Expanding access to skills development, reskilling, and sustainable green employment opportunities
    • Protection from Climate-Related Workplace Risks โ€“ Strengthening measures to protect workers from extreme heat and other climate-induced occupational risks
    • Accessible Climate Finance for a Just Transition โ€“ Ensuring adequate, accessible, and worker-centred climate finance to support a fair and inclusive transition

The workshop emphasized that the objective is not simply to prepare another policy document, but to build a collective workersโ€™ voice grounded in real workplace experiences, sectoral realities, and the priorities of workers across Bangladesh.

A meaningful Just Transition must place workers at the centre of climate action and ensure that their voices, rights, livelihoods, and aspirations shape Bangladeshโ€™s COP31 position.
