The consultation was organized as part of the ongoing process to develop a Workersโ/Trade Union Position Paper and Charter for COP31, creating a dedicated platform for young trade union leaders, climate activists, and youth representatives to share their experiences, concerns, and vision for the future of work in a changing climate.
Advancing a Youth-Centred Just Transition Agenda
Following the first workersโ consultation, the workshop focused on examining how climate change, automation, and the green transition are reshaping employment, skills, workplace safety, and livelihoods, while ensuring that the voices and priorities of young workers are reflected in Bangladeshโs COP31 agenda.
Key Discussions
- Climate Governance & Representation โ Ensuring meaningful participation of young people and workers in climate decision-making and climate-finance processes
- Decent Work & Social Protection โ Strengthening workplace protections, heat-risk measures, access to safe drinking water, childcare, and protection for young, women, and contract workers
- Skills Development & Green Jobs โ Expanding accessible reskilling and upskilling opportunities, income support during training, recognized green-skills certification, and clear career pathways
- Worker-Centred Climate Finance โ Promoting dedicated, gender- and health-responsive financing for green technologies, alternative employment, livelihoods, and emergency support, with transparent monitoring involving workers and trade unions
- Stronger Grassroots Engagement โ Connecting national policies with workplace realities through better field-level data, accessible awareness materials, digital communication, and stronger outreach to workers at the grassroots level
The consultation highlighted the importance of ensuring that Bangladeshโs Just Transition agenda responds to the realities and aspirations of young workers. A Just Transition must not only protect workers today but also create a fair, secure, and sustainable future of work for the young workers of tomorrow.
The future of work cannot be designed for young people without young people. Their voices, experiences, and priorities must be meaningfully reflected in Bangladeshโs COP31 Just Transition agenda.
